MO has been nominated for European Museum of the Year Award 2020

The European Museum Forum (EMF) has nominated candidates for the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA). MO Museum is also among the nominees.

The EMYA has been organised for over 40 years and is considered one of the most prestigious museum awards in the world. In late November the special EMF evaluation committee met to decide on the nominees for 2020 and reported excellent news to MO Museum.

“We are extremely pleased and appreciate this nomination. This kind of evaluation in the first years of our work provides encouragement and affirmation that we are moving in the right direction and need to continue to do so,” says Milda Ivanauskienė, Director at MO Museum. She also adds that the evaluation process for these awards was quite long. “One of the EMYA judges came to MO Museum for a visit back in the summer. In addition, a secret judge came to evaluate MO, whose visit we were not aware of,” she adds.

EMYA strives to promote innovation and ensure the highest quality of services for a diverse range of visitors. The aim is to find out and share good practices, ideas and to encourage various exchanges within the museum sector.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony 2020 at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff on 2 May next year. The nominees are invited to introduce their museums and share their experiences at a special conference organised on the occasion of the awards that brings together over 200 cultural professionals to gain inspiration from the best. “We are extremely proud to represent Vilnius and Lithuania by introducing MO Museum among some of the most advanced examples in the field,” Ivanauskienė notes.

Winners of the EMYA, which has been organised since 1977, include leading museums such as the Victoria&Albert (V&A) Museum in London, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, the Design Museum in London, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and others in Germany, Austria, Spain, the UK, France, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Turkey.
