This year, for the 13th time, young Baltic artists from different disciplines are invited showcase their work. The selection process for the “13th Young Painter Prize” (YPP) competition is now open. Young artists from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are invited to submit their work by June 30, 2021. In November this year, the works of the participants will be exhibited at the MO Museum and the winner will be announced during the opening of the exhibition.

The winner of the “XIII Young Painter Prize” competition will receive various prizes: a two-month residency (February-March 2022) at the Nordic Artists’ Centre in Dale, Norway, along with a monthly scholarship of 11,000 NOK, a financial award of 3,000 euros and the opportunity to have a solo exhibition at the Pamenkalnis Gallery, Vilnius. The winner’s work will also be included in the collection of paintings of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art at the National Gallery of Art.

The “XIII Young Painter’s Prize” competition is open to Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian artists of various disciplines, who are studying or have already graduated from any art school in the world. The main conditions for participation are to submit a painting to the competition (the means of artistic expression are not limited) and to be no older than 30 years old.

The selection process will run for a full month and young artists are invited to submit their work by 30 June this year. The full terms and conditions of the competition and the application form can be found here:

The winner will be announced at the opening of the exhibition at MO Museum. The works of all the participants will be on display at MO Museum from 18 November to the end of January and will be available to visitors of the museum.

Entries will be assessed by an international jury

The jury of the competition this year includes art historian and director of the Nordic Artists’ Centre Dale Residency Arild H. Eriksen, curator of MO Museum Gabriele Radzeviciute, artistic director of the Estonian KAI Art Centre Karin Laansoo, film and video artist, sculptor Deimantas Narkevicius, Latvian painter and winner of the competition “Young Painter Prize 2013” Zane Tuča and art historian Meta Valiusaityte.

Conditions of participation in the "XIII Young Painter's Prize" competition:

1. All current art students, graduates and postgraduates are welcome to take part in the competition. At the time of submission, the applicants should be 30 or younger.

2. The competition is open exclusively to the applicants from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

3. The applicants should only submit paintings created during the period of 2020-2021. Each applicant should pick one painting at their own discretion.

4. Applications should be submitted to jtp.ypp@gmail.com by June 30, 2021. The applications should include:

– Artwork photos of high quality (one photo of the artwork submitted for the competition, along with the photos of 4 accompanying artworks). It is essential that the submitions have the following information: the title of the artwork (in English), size, artistic technique, and the completion date. The applicants should also clearly indicate top of the painting. The photos should come in .jpg, .jpeg, .tiff, or .tif formats.

– The application form which can be found online, here.

– Creative biography (in English).

– The detailed description of the main artwork submitted for the competition (up to 1 page, in English).

5. By submitting their application, the artist agrees that, in the case of their becoming the winner of YPP, their artwork will become the property of the YPP organisers.

6. The artist applicant shall grant the YPP organisers the right to reproduce their artwork for the purposes of promotion and publicity, and shall not ask for any copyright fees.

7. The previous YPP winners cannot participate in the competition.
