The founders of MO Museum – Vilnius city citizens of honour
The founders of MO Museum Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus were announced the citizens of honour of Vilnius city. It is the highest evaluation which can be initiated and can be given to people who made something significant to the city and Lithuania overall.
This year was the first time when the city council has announced not one but two persons at once.
According to Vilnius Mayor R. Šimašius: “We are grateful for the new space on the map of Lithuanian culture. Together with the establishment of MO, Vilnius has discovered open, aesthetic and modern face of the city. We support the mission of MO and together we will help to grow for the art talents promoting Vilnius as a modern city in the world”.
The idea to honour and elect the citizens of Vilnius has been alive since 1996. Elected Honorary Citizens are: Ronald Reagan, Jon Boldvin Hanibalson, Kazimieras Vasiliauskas, Mstislav Rostropovich, Dennis Haster, Cheslav Milos, Justin Marcinkevich, Zbignev Bezezinsky, Jonas Kubilius, Algirdas Kaušpėdas, Tomas Venclova, Shimon Peres , Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas, Algimantas Nasvytis, Samuel Bak and Others.
MO Museum team was also awarded in this year’s Lithuanian National Radio and Television Awards. MO Museum was announced as the initiative of the year and Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus were elected as the people of the year.
