MO among Top 10 museums in the world that are worth visiting

The Italian news agency ANSA has selected ten contemporary art museums in the world that are worth visiting. MO Museum in Vilnius has also appeared among those which attracted major attention.

The list includes museums, galleries and art centres which, according to the article, are worth to be discovered and receive attention. Among them are museums that have been active for quite a while as well as art spaces which have opened their doors for visitors recently.

Besides MO, the list includes such prestigious art museums as Bilbao Guggenheim, MAXXI in Rome, Amos Rex in Helsinki, Louis Vuitton in Paris, Saatchi Gallery in London, Kanazawa’s 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Japan and others.

According to the Italian news agency, MO Museum, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind and born at the initiative of two Lithuanian scientists Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus, is the newest contemporary art museum in Vilnius. The museum’s collection comprises of over 5,000 pieces of modern and contemporary art from the 1960s to the present day. The building of the museum blends in with the overall architecture of the city, and the museum’s terrace staircase connects the nearby busy city street with the quiet MO Museum terrace.

“We are delighted with this evaluation and the inclusion of MO Museum in the solid company of world-renowned museums. It proves we are moving in the right direction, and the emergence of a new art space in Vilnius is valuable for Vilnius residents, city guests or visiting tourists,” says Milda Ivanauskienė, Director at MO.
