MO Museum among Top Five of the most anticipated museums in the world
For the first time ever, the influential architectural magazine Architectural Digest has listed a Lithuanian museum among the Top Five of the most anticipated museums.
Early in February, the website of the French magazine, AD Magazine, published the list featuring the most architecturally outstanding museums. Among museums of Qatar, China, and the US, it also included MO Museum, which opened its doors in October in Vilnius. The publication notes that this modern impressive building, designed by the world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind together with the Lithuanian team of Do Architects, perfectly matches the collection of modern and contemporary art exhibited there.
MO Museum is designed not only as an exhibition space but as an inspiring place for changing the routine of everyday life. The building itself also speaks of different approaches and viewpoints. At first glance, it looks like a simple white rectangle, but due to its sophisticated construction inside the building turns into a dynamic space, where visitors can discover interesting viewing points and, thus, different places of the building or the street open up.
MO, originally founded as the personal initiative of scientists Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus, for almost a decade has been functioning as a museum without walls. Its collection of over 5,000 works of modern and contemporary artworks contains the best of the Lithuanian art from the fifties of the 20th century until today. Since 18 October 2018, MO Museum has become a place for excellent leisure. MO invites visitors to attend exhibitions, film screenings, educational activities, concerts and other for various age groups. One of MO’s goals is to create an active community of MOdernists who support the idea of MO and want to help create a new museum together!
