More than 50 thousand people have already visited MO Museum

The opening of MO Museum gave an impetus for the first month – it was always full of people. More than 50 thousand people have visited the museum since its opening.

Visitors came to MO Museum during the opening and afterwards. The museum was covered both by Lithuanian as well as foreign media: Bild, Dezeen, Metropolis, Designboom, The Art Newspaper, Architectural Digest, Wallpaper, Vogue, Deutsche Welle. Visitors are attracted to see MO due to various activities of the museum: exhibitions, cinema, lectures about art, different activities for children, concerts.

Visitors want to know more

“We are delighted by such a great interest in the museum. We also understand that this is the first wave of visitors who want to be first and see first. MO is a new attraction in town and therefore a lot of people want to see it. However, the results of the first month inspire us and makes us work even harder. So, we will continue to offer various activities that accompany the exhibition”, says Milda Ivanauskienė, director of MO Museum.

Visitors not only want to see MO exhibition but they also want to know more about the artworks. More than 10 thousand visitors have used and listened to MO multimedia guide on their phone or tablet. Other 1500 visitors decided to have an exhibition tour with MO guides.

Guided tours by volunteer guides

MO has also offered a new alternative – on Saturdays and Sundays MO Museum offers free guided tours with volunteer guides. “Registration for these guided tours is not carried out in advance. Visitors who are in the museum and have no idea about this opportunity are pleasantly surprised and the ones who know about it, come specifically for that”, adds M. Ivanauskienė. The free guided tours with volunteers take place on weekends at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Popular cinema screenings and lectures about art

From Thursday to Sunday, MO together with the cinema “Pasaka” is organizing cinema screenings. Specially selected films for MO Museum attract a lot of people. For example, a special exhibition tour was organized before the movie “Ashes in the Snow”. All the tickets to the movie were sold out very quickly.

“Tickets to Ričardas Jankauskas’s back2school lectures, which take place in the museum every Wednesday, are purchased the moment they are available. Those who want to attend these lectures need to buy the tickets two or even three weeks in advance”, says the director of MO.

Schools are actively registering for education

MO Museum pays a lot of attention to education and offers three different educational programs: integrated lessons, visual thinking and emotional intelligence. During the first month, more than 500 school children participated in these activities. Most of them are from Vilnius, but also schools from Klaipėda, Alytus and Panevėžys are registered.

According to M. Ivanauskienė, she was very optimistic to see not only school children of Vilnius but also of Klaipėda city visiting MO during the first week of the opening. This means MO is interesting not only for Vilnius city residents. MO educators host the classes and are also preparing a special programme for festive period.

MO is a diverse community

There are currently three exhibitions in the museum: the first MO exhibition “All Art Is About Ss”, the photography exhibition called “The passage of daily life” and humoristic and auto ironical exhibition in the Reading Room called “Art Break”. On the 30th  of November, the installation “Three Acts and Silence” by Dalia Ibelhauptaitė, director of the Vilnius City Opera, and Nerijus Erminas, creator of conceptual sculpture, will be presented to the visitors.

On Sunday, MO hosts children’s activities and events. On the last Friday of the month MO invites visitors to stay longer in the museum. During these events different activities are offered to the visitors: meetings and discussions with the artists, musical program and concerts.
